Hard disk or root level folder appears as My Notebook folder in OneNote 2003 (817105)
The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMSWhen you start Office OneNote 2003, your whole hard disk or
a root level folder may now be displayed as your "My Notebook"
folder.CAUSEThis problem occurs if you change the Office OneNote 2003
Location of My Notebook folder setting to a root folder such
as "Documents and Settings" to the root folder of your hard disk such as C:\.
Office OneNote 2003 then adds an "Onenote table of contents.onetoc" file to
that folder and every subfolder under that folder. "Onenote table of
contents.onetoc" files are always hidden files, so they may not be visible
depending on your folder option settings.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1. location of your "My Notebook" folder back to the original folder, and then
delete all the .onetoc files from your hard disk except under your "My
Notebook" folder:
- Start Office OneNote 2003.
- On the Tools menu, click
Options.
- Click Open and Save.
- Change the Location of My Notebook folder
setting. To do so, click Browse, and then click the
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\My
Documents\My Notebook folder.
- Click OK, and then quit Office OneNote
2003.
- Delete .onetoc files. To do so, use the method for your
operating system:
For Microsoft Windows 2000:
- Click Start, point to
Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
- In the Search for files or folders
named box, type *.onetoc.
- In the Look in box, click My
Computer, and then click Search Now.
- In the Search Results pane, click
Select All on the Edit menu.
- On the File menu, click
Delete, and then click Yes.
For Microsoft Windows XP:
- Click Start, and then click
Search.
- In the Search Results dialog box,
click All files and folders.
- In the All or part of the file name
box, type *.onetoc.
- Click More advanced options. Click to
select the Search hidden files and folders check box if it is
not already selected.
- Click Search.
- In the Search Results pane, click
Select All on the Edit menu.
- On the File menu, click
Delete, and then click Yes.
- Start Office OneNote 2003 so Office OneNote 2003 can
rebuild the table of contents files for just the "My Notebook" folder and
subfolders.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1.
