XL2002: Right-to-Left Character Formatting Inverted to Left-to-Right When You Import a Hebrew Text File (815195)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2002

SYMPTOMS

When you import a Hebrew text file into Excel 2002, the contents of the text file may not be displayed correctly.

For example, one or both of the following symptoms may occur:
  • Text in individual cells of the Excel worksheet is imported with Left-to-Right formatting instead of with Right-to-Left formatting.
  • The table rows alternate with blank rows.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the text file is saved in the Codepage 28598:Hebrew (ISO-Visual) format.

WORKAROUND

To prevent this problem from occurring, use the Convtext.exe tool to convert the text files into the Hebrew (Windows) text format, and then open the converted files in Excel 2002.

Convtext.exe is included in the Hebrew version of Microsoft Office XP and should be located in the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Office 10
