Free Disk Space Performance Counter Returns Value of Zero When Clustered (814627)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

SYMPTOMS

After you install the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) Management Pack for Microsoft Windows 2000, the Physical Disk Counters may return incorrect results for performance measuring and threshold monitoring. For example, the Free Disk Space performance counter may return a value of zero.

CAUSE

This problem may occurs if you use physical disk performance counters to monitor Microsoft clusters.

WORKAROUND

As of March 2003, there is no work around for this problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If there are Microsoft clusters in your managed environment, turn off any rules that use Physical Disk counters on clustered computers. You can do this by opening the MOM 2000 MMC, and then navigating down to:

Microsoft Operations Manager\Rules\Processing Rule Groups\Microsoft Windows 2000 Operating System\Windows 2000 - All Computers\Threshold Performance Counters for Windows 2000\Performance Processing Rules

By default, you can expect to see 27 performance counter rules. Those that do not appear with a red 'X' next to their names are turned on and may have to be turned off if you are experiencing this problem.
