How to disable the Exchange System Attendant Dependency on the RPC Locator Service (814475)

SUMMARY

This article describes how to disable the Exchange System Attendant service dependency on the Microsoft Windows 2000 RPC Locator service. The Exchange2000 Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service has a dependency on the Windows 2000 RPC Locator service. You can disable this dependency on a Windows 2000 server that is running Exchange 2000 Server.

Note Although you cannot disable the RPC Locator service on a domain controller or a server that is running the Site Replication Service (SRS), you can disable the Exchange System Attendant dependency on this service.

Disable the RPC Locator Service Dependency

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. To disable the dependency on the Windows 2000 RPC Locator service:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit32 in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeSA

  3. In the right pane, right-click DependOnService, and then click Modify.
  4. Remove the RPCLOCATOR portion of the registry value, and then click OK.
  5. Quit Registry Editor.
