Outlook 2002: Connects then Disconnects from Dialup Connection (814438)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Outlook 2002, Outlook 2002 automatically dials out by using your Internet connection, looks for e-mail, and then disconnects your modem, although you have Outlook 2002 configured to remain connected.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if Outlook 2002 is installed on a computer that has either the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system or the Microsoft Windows XP operating system installed. However, if you manually look at your e-mail account by clicking Send/Recieve, Outlook 2002 does not disconnect your modem after you look for e-mail.

MORE INFORMATION

When you first start Outlook 2002, the very first time you look for e-mail is considered a background process, an automatic check for e-mail, not a manual check for e-mail. Because of this, Outlook disconnects the modem after you finish looking for e-mail.
