The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Broadband Networking 10 100 Ethernet PCI Adapter MN130

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the Microsoft Broadband Ethernet PCI Adapter MN-130 on your Microsoft Windows 98-based computer, you are prompted to provide your Windows 98 installation CD-ROM.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because some Windows system files are required and the installation program installs them from the Windows 98 installation CD-ROM.
To resolve this behavior, insert the Windows 98 installation CD-ROM when you are prompted to do so.

WORKAROUND

You may be able to work around this requirement if the system files have been previously installed on your computer. To copy the files from your System folder:
  1. When you are prompted to insert the Windows 98 installation CD-ROM, click OK.
  2. Click Browse, open the C:\Windows\System folder, and then click OK two times.
  3. Setup continues. When Setup prompts you for the Windows 98 installation CD-ROM for the second time, click OK, click Browse, and then open the C:\Windows folder.
  4. The third time you are prompted for the Windows 98 installation CD-ROM, click OK, click Browse, and then open the C:\Windows\System folder.
  5. After the files are copied, restart your computer when you are prompted to do so.
  6. After the computer restarts and the installation program starts again, click Finish.
Note Another location for Windows files is the C:\Windows\Options\Cabs folder.
