Error Message When You Click Cancel in Password Dialog Box (813723)

SYMPTOMS

If you try to show a PowerPoint presentation from Windows Explorer, and you click Cancel in the Password dialog box of the PowerPoint presentation file, you receive the following error message:
PowerPoint can't read drive\folder\filename.ppt

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you right-click a password-protected PowerPoint presentation file, and then click Show.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, type the correct password in the Password dialog box, and then click OK. Your PowerPoint slide show appears. Press ESC to quit the slide show.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
