You receive a "No video capture devices are installed" error message when you try to record a broadcast in PowerPoint 2003 (813718)

285478. SYMPTOMS When you click Record in the
Record Presentation Broadcast dialog box, you may receive the
following error message in the Status section of the
Broadcast Presentation message box: PowerPoint could not connect to the Windows Media Encoder.
Press Retry to try again. If you click the
Details button, you may receive an error message that is
similar to the following: The Windows Media Encoder
returned the following error message to PowerPoint:
drive:\My Documents\My
Broadcasts\user\broadcast_filepath
No video capture devices are installed. Please contact your system
administrator for help regarding this Windows Media Encoder
error. CAUSE This issue occurs if you do not have a video capture device
installed and configured in your computer. By default, PowerPoint assumes that
your computer has both audio and video capturing capabilities.RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, change the Record Presentation
Broadcast configuration settings to None or Audio
only:
- Start PowerPoint.
- On the Slide Show menu, point to
Online Broadcast, and then click
Settings.
- On the Presenter tab, click either
None or Audio only under
Audio/Video, and then click OK.
