SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade to Microsoft Windows XP or reinstall Windows XP on a computer that is running Windows Media Player 9 (Wmfdist.exe), the installation of Windows XP replaces Windows Media Player 9. As a result, some programs that require Windows Media Player 9 may not function as you expect.

CAUSE

This issue may occur when you reinstall or upgrade to Windows XP.

RESOLUTION

Reinstall Windows Media Player 9

To download, and then reinstall Windows Media Player 9, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
