Upgrade Advisor Incorrectly Reports Easy CD Creator 5 as Not Compatible (813339)


The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you run Microsoft Windows Upgrade Advisor, it may report that Easy CD Creator 5 by Roxio Inc. is not compatible with Windows XP. This problem may occur even if you have a compatible version (5.1 or later) of Easy CD Creator installed.

Note: Windows XP Setup automatically runs the Upgrade Advisor when you upgrade a previous Windows operating system to Windows XP. You can also run the Upgrade Advisor manually by clicking the Check System Compatibility link in the Welcome to Microsoft Windows XP dialog box that appears when you insert your Windows XP CD-ROM. CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Upgrade Advisor incorrectly reports all versions of Easy CD Creator 5 as being incompatible with Windows XP. All versions of Easy CD Creator 5.1 or later (Basic and Platinum) are compatible with Windows XP. In this case, the Upgrade Advisor should not report Easy CD Creator as being incompatible.

Note: If you have a version of Easy CD Creator that is earlier than 5.1, the Upgrade Advisor correctly reports that Easy CD Creator is not compatible and that you may have to reinstall or obtain an update to make these versions compatible with Windows XP.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, ignore the compatibility warning if you are running Easy CD Creator 5.1 or later.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows XP Service Pack 1.
