Server for a Network File System Does Not Immediately Update the Access Times and the Modified Times for a File (812461)

SYMPTOMS

When a network file system (NFS) client reads from a file or writes to a file, the access times and the modified times for the file do not update immediately. There may be a delay of up to several minutes before the access times and the modified times are updated.

This fix optionally forces the file system to explicitly update the file times. By default, the behavior to explicitly set the file times is turned off. To turn on this behavior so that you can make sure that the problem is fixed, you must explicitly create a new DWORD registry value. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Create a new DWORD registry value and then name the DWORD registry value as follows:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NfsSvr\ Parameters\ExplicitUpdateFileTimes
  2. Set the DWORD registry value to 1.
