Off2000: Installation of Office 2000 from an Administrative Share Point Stops Responding (812086)

SYMPTOMSWhen you try to install Microsoft Office 2000 from an
administrative share point, your computer may stop responding and you may
receive an error message that is similar to the following: Error 1904 module
Drive:/Administrative_Share_Path/mcps.dll
failed to register HRESULT -2147024889 contact your support
personnel. RESOLUTION A
supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to
correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems
that are experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem
immediately, download the fix by clicking the download link later in this
article or contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix. For a

To resolve this issue, you must apply MCPSRegFix. To
apply this fix, follow these steps:
- Open a command prompt, type msiexec /a
Admin Path\Data1.msi /p Source
Path\MCPSRegFix.msp SHORTFILENAMES=1 where
Admin Path is the path to your administrative
installation point for Office 2000 SR-1 CD 1, and Source
Path is the path to the updated MSP file you extracted.
Note You must run this command from a computer on which the Microsoft
Windows Installer is already installed. - In the Microsoft Office 2000 Administrative
Mode dialog box, click Next.
Note You do not have to type your CD Key or company name in the
Microsoft Office 2000 Administrative Mode dialog box.
- Click I accept the terms of the License
Agreement, and then click Next.
- Click Install Now.
- When the update is complete, click OK.
Your administrative installation point is now updated with the .msp
file. - Open a command prompt, type msiexec /a
Admin Path\Data1.msi /p Source
Path\MCPSRegFix.msp SHORTFILENAMES=1 where
Admin Path is the path to your administrative
installation point for Office 2000 SR-1 CD 2, and Source
Path is the path to the updated MSP file you extracted.
- When the update is complete, click OK.
Your Office 2000 administrative installation point is now updated
with the .msp file. - Install Office 2000 from the updated administrative share
point.
Use the Setuppro.exe file to install CD 1, and the Setup.exe
file to install CD 2.
