OL2000: "File Not Found" Error Message When You Use the Common Dialog DLL to Open Multiple Outlook Message Files and You Have Office 2000 SP-3 Installed (811945)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you run a macro that uses the Common Dialog DLL to open multiple Outlook e-mail message files (*.msg) and you have Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3) installed, you may receive the following error message:
File not found

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Outlook changes the Current Directory location to point to where the Outlook files are located when it loads the Outlook DLL files, and it never restores the original directory location. When you try to open the file, the Common Dialog DLL tries to verify that the file exists by using the Current Directory location. Because the Current Directory location was altered, the Common Dialog DLL cannot verify the file.
