Subscriptions Do Not Work After the Property Store is Reset (811868)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001

SYMPTOMS

After the property store (Sps.edb) is reset, the subscriptions are not correctly created. When the property store is reset, all the files that are located in the \Program Files\Sharepoint Portal Server\Data\FTData\SharePointPortalServer folder are removed, and the Microsoft Search service is stopped. When the Microsoft Search service restarts, it re-creates the property store and tries to populate the property store with the existing subscriptions. The Microsoft Search service does not correctly create each subscription, and the type and number of subscriptions may not be correct.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because when the Microsoft Search service rebuilt the subscriptions and notifications, there was a flaw in the algorithm. The resulting subscriptions do not match the subscriptions that are stored in the Microsoft Web Storage System.

RESOLUTION

This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you have installed SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 3 or a later service pack, you do not have to apply the hotfix.
