XADM: Cannot Delete the Site Replication Service Remotely (811653)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

When you try to remove the Site Replication Service (SRS), you may not be able to do so even though you are logged on as a member of a security group with sufficient permissions.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you try to delete the SRS from a remote location. You cannot run the Exchange System Manager remotely when you create or delete an SRS database. The SRS may only be removed when you are logged on locally.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, connect to the server by using Terminal services that are installed in administration mode. The Terminal services session has all of the required characteristics of a local console session.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

MORE INFORMATION

Before an SRS can be deleted, the following conditions must be met:
  • You must be logged on locally. A call is made to Setup to remove files and settings that can only be performed on the local computer.
  • There can be no Exchange Server 5.5 servers remaining, unless there is at least one other SRS.
  • The SRS to be removed cannot be employed as a bridgehead for a Directory Replication Connector (DRC).
