The Microsoft Directory Synchronization Service May Stop Intermittently (811280)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Services for NetWare 5.0
SYMPTOMSThe Microsoft Directory Synchronization service may stop
intermittently. You may receive event ID 7031 ("The Directory Synchronization
Service service terminated unexpectedly"). You may also see event ID 17
intermittently in the Microsoft Directory Synchronization service event log: The session was unable to start
because it is already in progress. This behavior occurs only if you have many sessions defined (more than 30). CAUSE Typically, the Microsoft Directory Synchronization service creates a single thread for each
synchronization session that is defined. However, a race condition exists such that the Microsoft Directory Synchronization service might
create multiple threads for each session to run. This causes the service not to work correctly if there are more than 62 session threads.STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
