You receive a "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" error message when you try to open My Network Places in Windows XP (811266)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open My Network Places, you may receive the following error message:
Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when you try to share a Canon MultiPass F30 or F50 printer on a home network. As of August 2002, the MultiPass F30 and F50 printer driver does not support printer sharing in Windows XP.

RESOLUTION

As of August 2002, you cannot use the Network Printing option with the MultiPass F30 or MultiPass F50 printer. To resolve this issue, contact Canon to inquire about the availability of an updated MultiPass F30 or MultiPass F50 printer driver that supports printer sharing.
