SUMMARY

A CD key or Product Key is a unique combination of numbers and letters that is used during the product installation to "unlock" or open the product. If you do not enter the CD Key when you are prompted during the installation, the product may not open until you enter a CD Key.

Note A CD Key is not a Product Identification (PID) number. However, a CD Key is required by the program to create a PID. PIDs are used to register a product or to receive support over the Web.

MORE INFORMATION

The CD Key is typically located on an orange or yellow sticker on the back of the CD case, or it is listed in the documentation that the product came with. Make sure that you store the CD Key as carefully as you store the product CD. The product cannot be reinstalled without both of these items. To replace a CD Key or Product Key, you must contact Microsoft Product Support Services.

To locate the appropriate phone number for your product, visit the following Microsoft Web site: Note When you contact Microsoft Product Support Services for a replacement CD Key, you may have to pay a fee. You must also provide proof of purchase or product registration.
