SBC Yahoo! Internet Service Provider Software Update Causes Error Message in Outlook (810939)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

  • Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0 for Windows 98

SYMPTOMS

When you use Outlook 2000 or Outlook Express version 6.0 to send a new e-mail message, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Outlook caused an Invalid Page Fault in module kernel32.dll

CAUSE

This issue may occur if your e-mail program is using an out-of-date version of the SBC Prodigy software. As of December 2002, SBC Prodigy has joined with Yahoo! to create the " SBC Yahoo!" Internet connection service. After you install SBC Yahoo!, Outlook 2002 and Outlook Express 6.0 may continue to use the older SBC Prodigy dialer instead of the new SBC Yahoo! dialer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the SBC Prodigy and SBC Yahoo! e-mail accounts from Outlook 2002 and Outlook Express 6.0, and then configure a new account to use the new SBC Yahoo! dialer:
  1. Remove your e-mail accounts from Outlook 2002 or Outlook Express 6.0:
    • If you are using Outlook 2002:
      1. In Outlook 2002, click E-mail Accounts on the Tools menu.
      2. Under E-mail, click View or change existing e-mail accounts , and then click Next.
      3. In the E-mail Accounts box, click the SBC Prodigy account , and then click Remove.
      4. Repeat step 3 for any other SBC Prodigy or SBC Yahoo! accounts.
    • If you are using Outlook Express 6.0:
      1. In Outlook Express 6.0, click Accounts on the Tools menu.
      2. In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click the Mail tab.
      3. Click the SBC Prodigy account , and then click Remove.
      4. Repeat step 3 for any other SBC Prodigy or SBC Yahoo! accounts.
