Error Message: NETRAID 4M is Not Compatible with Windows 2000 and Cannot be Upgraded (810902)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to upgrade from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to Microsoft Windows 2000, the Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer tool analyzes your computer and you may receive the following error message:

NETRAID 4M is not compatible with Windows 2000 and cannot be upgraded.

This occurs even though you are not using a HP NetRAID-4M device.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the HP Operating System Installation CD-ROM was used to install Windows NT 4.0. The HP Operating System Installation CD-ROM loads drivers for several HP NetServers. When the Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer tool analyzes your computer, it detects the installed driver for the HP NetRAID-4M Controller and determines that the HP NetRAID-4M Controller is installed on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, reinstall Windows NT 4.0 without using the HP Operating System Installation CD-ROM. After setup is complete, you can perform the upgrade to Windows 2000. When you do this, you can install the driver for your HP NetRAID controller during the setup of Windows 2000.
