Error Messages: OE Rules Cannot Be Opened or OE Rules File Appears to Be Corrupted (810850)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open Entourage or Outlook Express, you may receive either of the following error messages:
OE Rules file could not be opened
OE Rules file appears to be corrupted

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Rules file for your identity has been corrupted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, re-create the Rules file for your identity:
  1. Drag the Rules file for your identity to the desktop.

    The Rules file for your identity is stored in the following Identity folder:

    Hard disk:Documents:Microsoft User Data:Microsoft Office 2001 Identities:Your Identity Folder

  2. Start Entourage or Outlook Express.
  3. Re-create your Rules.

    For more information about Rules, follow these steps:
    1. On the Help menu, click Contents and Index, click Index, and then click R.
    2. Scroll down until you locate Rules, and then click the arrow to the left to view a list of topics under the general topic.
    3. Click About Rules.
    If you cannot find the information that you want, ask the Office Assistant.
