VSO2002: Considerations When Publishing to UNIX-Based Web Servers (810624)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Visio 2002 Professional
  • Microsoft Visio 2002 Standard

SUMMARY

This article describes considerations and limitations that apply when you publish Microsoft Visio drawings to UNIX-based Web servers.

MORE INFORMATION

You can publish Visio drawings to the following Microsoft Windows environments, on which Microsoft FrontPage Extensions 2002 is installed:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server running Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0 or later
  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server Service Pack 6a or later running Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0 or later
Additionally, you can publish Visio drawings to the following UNIX environment on which FrontPage Extensions 2002 is installed:
  • Red Hat Linux 7.2 running Apache Web Server 1.3.19
When you publish a Visio drawing to a Web server, it is best to use the 8.3 format to name your files. For example, use "Drawing1.htm" instead of "Drawing1 Convention Center.htm". Remember that file names are case-sensitive in a UNIX environment. When you publish to a UNIX environment, make sure that you use all lowercase characters and remove all spaces in the file names.

You may not be able to publish Visio drawings to the following UNIX environments:
  • Sun Solaris 8-based Web Server running iPlanet
  • FreeBSD running Apache Web Server 1.3.26
When you try to publish to these environments, you may find that a red "X" appears on the Web page instead of the Visio drawing. This behavior may occur if the UNIX environment is incompatible with FrontPage Server Extensions 2002.
