How to provision SharePoint Web sites for Project Server 2002 (810598)

This article discuses how to provision SharePoint sites for Microsoft Project Server, other than the default Web sites and the provision additional Web sites. Note that when you run SharePoint Configuration Wizard, the Web site that you have created specifically for SharePoint may not be listed.

Follow these steps to provision SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft and configure it for Microsoft Project Server.

Part 1: Create a Folder for the New Web Site

  1. Connect to the Server on which SharePoint Team Services is located.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
  3. Open C:\Inetpub.
  4. In this folder, create a new folder and name it Stsroot.

Part 2: Create a New Web Site

  1. Click Start, click Run, type Inetmgr, and then click OK.
  2. Right-click your server, click New, and then click Web site.
  3. In the Welcome to the Web Site Creation Wizard, click Next.
  4. Type a name for your SharePoint Web site, and then click Next.
  5. In the TCP Port box, change the value from 80 to a different value. Port 80 is reserved for use only on the default Web site. Click Next.
  6. Locate the Stsroot folder that you created, and then click Next.
  7. Accept the default settings, click Next, and then click Finish.

Part 3: Extend Your New SharePoint Web Site

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Microsoft SharePoint Administration.
  2. In the Virtual Folders section, locate your new SharePoint Web site. In the last column, next to Versions, click Extend.
  3. Type the name of your database server. Type username that has SQL administrator permissions, and then type the password. Accept the default Site Type value, and then click Submit.
After you have provisioned your SharePoint Web site with the FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions from Microsoft, run the SharePoint Configuration Wizard to configure it for Microsoft Project Server.

Part 4: Run the SharePoint Configuration Wizard

  1. Insert the Microsoft Project Server CD into the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Start, click Run, click Browse, and then locate the Project Server CD.
  3. Click Setup.exe, click Open, and then click OK.
  4. In the Setup menu, click SharePoint Configuration Wizard.
  5. If you have not installed the SharePoint Configuration Wizard before, follow these steps:
    1. Accept the license agreement, and then click Next.
    2. Select your configured SharePoint Web site, and then click Next.
    3. Type your database information.
    If you have installed the SharePoint Configuration Wizard before, click Provision additional SharePoint Web site for Project Server, and then click Next.
  6. Select your configured SharePoint Web site to provision and configure it for SharePoint for Microsoft Project Server.
