SUMMARY

The Microsoft Works for Windows version 2.0 Setup program may hang and display the message "Cannot Find WIZZY1.LS$" after you insert Disk 4 if the computer is infected with one of the "Stoned" series of viruses. Disk 4 of Works for Windows will become corrupted.

MORE INFORMATION

A directory of Disk 4 will reveal only 32 files, and the last file will have an illegal filename, usually beginning with two Greek symbols followed by MSDOS5.00 (or something similar). The Works for Windows' Disk 4 should contain 59 files (3.5-inch disks) or 102 files (5.25-inch disks).

Microsoft has rigorous quality control measures to insure that viruses are not on disks that we ship. Works for Windows' disks are distributed virus-free in sealed clear plastic envelopes that display a message about the Microsoft software license agreement. If disks are purchased in any other type of package they should not be used.

The customer's computer may be the source of the infection. If you suspect that the customer's computer has a virus and he/she is using MS-DOS 6.0 or later, suggest running Microsoft Anti-Virus. If he/she is running an earlier version of MS-DOS, the customer should obtain MS-DOS 6.0 or later, or obtain help from a third-party virus-correction service or vendor.
