SUMMARY

A self-referencing formula in a Works for Windows database will start returning an incorrect answer in record 769. This problem was corrected in Works for Windows 2.0a.

WORKAROUND

Split the database into several databases, each with 768 records or less. Self-referencing formulas work correctly in Works for MS-DOS.

MORE INFORMATION

The Balance Field

The following formula entered in the Balance field is an example of a self-referencing formula:

=Balance-Check+Deposit

The Balance field is both the field where the formula is entered and a field in the formula. This is what makes it a self-referencing formula.

The above formula would return an incorrect balance in record 769, and a negative value that is the inverse of whatever was entered in the Check field in the records below 769.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works for Windows version 2.0. This problem was corrected in Works for Windows 2.0a.
