SUMMARY

When you use the Vertical (Y) Axis command in the Format menu to scale a value axis representing time in Works for Windows, it is necessary to use the serial number (decimal) equivalent of the time in the Maximum, Minimum, and Interval options instead of the time format. If the actual time is entered using the time format, you receive the error:
Number Not Valid
For example, if you try to enter a time value, such as 0:30:00, Works will return the error message. You must use the decimal equivalent of the time, in this case, 0.020833.

MORE INFORMATION

To obtain the serial number equivalent of a time, do the following:

  1. Format a spreadsheet cell for time values by clicking Format Time/Date.
  2. Enter the time value.
  3. On the Format menu, click General.
  4. The serial number equivalent of the time you entered appears.
So, to set up a vertical axis scale of time values from 0:00:00 to 6:00:00 in 30 minute increments, you would choose Vertical (Y) Axis from the Format menu and enter the following values:

Minimum: 0
Maximum: 0.25 (decimal equivalent of 6:00:00)
Interval: 0.020833 (decimal equivalent of 00:30:00)

If the chart type is X-Y (Scatter), you can set the scale for the horizontal axis in the same manner.
