SYMPTOMS

When you transfer database files from Microsoft Works for Windows to Microsoft Works for MS-DOS, the field widths in form view are different.

MORE INFORMATION

When you transfer a Microsoft Works for Windows Database file to Microsoft Works for MS-DOS, the field size (in form view) defaults to a maximum of 40 characters.

This can cause your field results to be truncated in Works for MS-DOS, even though all of the data is still there. To fully display your field results, select the affected fields, and click Field Size (Works for MS-DOS 2.0 and later) or Field Width (Works for MS-DOS 1.0) from the Format menu. Note that field width formats are retained when transferring from Works for MS-DOS to Works for Windows.

This behavior occurs because of the differences between the graphical environment of Works for Windows and the character-based environment of Works for MS-DOS (this applies to all versions). The two environments handle fields differently.
