Pasting Data into Database Fields in Works (79122)

In a Works for Windows database, data is copied and pasted differently in
Form view than in List view. In addition, the copy and paste commands vary depending on the version of Works.

In the Works 2.0 Form view, the only copy command available is Copy Record. Data is always pasted starting with the first field of the current record, regardless of where the cursor is located in the database form. It is not possible to paste into a specific field in the Works 2.0 Form view.
In Works 3.0, 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a, data copied by selecting the Copy command from the Edit menu will paste into the selected destination field. Data copied using the Copy Record command will paste into the selected record starting with the first field.
List View
In List view, data is normally pasted into the database starting at
whatever field the cursor is in when Paste is chosen from the Edit menu.
However, if you try to paste an entire record into a field to the right of
the first field, Works 2.0 will paste the record starting with the first
field. In Works 3.0, 4.0, 4.5 and 4.5a, you will get one of the following
error messages:
Works 3.0:
Source and destination areas are different shapes.
Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a:
The source data is larger than the selection.
Add new fields to make it fit?"
-or- (if any of the fields are protected)
The destination fields are protected. You must turn off
protection for the destination fields.
