SUMMARY

This article describes how to create a template file in Microsoft Works for Windows version 2.0.

A template is a document that has pre-defined settings, such as margin settings or default text. For example, if you want to write letters using a certain letterhead, you can design that letterhead and save it as a template. Then, whenever you open that template, the letterhead is ready, and you only need to add the body text of the letter.

MORE INFORMATION

To create a Works for Windows template file, do the following:

  1. From the File menu, choose Create New File (ALT, F, N).
  2. Select the type of file you want to create (Word Processor, Spreadsheet, or Database).
  3. Set up the template file with the preferred default settings by typing text or choosing commands as necessary.
  4. From the File menu, choose Save As (ALT, F, A).
  5. In the Save File as Type box, choose WP, SS or DB Template.
  6. Choose the OK button, or press ENTER.
The template file will be loaded each time a file of the same type (for example, Word Processor, Spreadsheet) is created using the Create a New File command.
