MORE INFORMATION

Combining Accounts in Different Money Files

To combine two or more accounts from different Money (.mny) files, use the appropriate method for your version of Money.

Money 97 or Later

  1. On the File menu, click Export.
  2. Click Loose QIF, and then click OK.
  3. Type filename.qif where filename is the unique file name you want for the exported file.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click either Regular or Investment for the type of account you are exporting, and then click OK.
  6. In the Account List box, click to select the account you want to export the data from, and then click Continue.
  7. When you are prompted that the export is complete, click OK.
  8. On the File menu, click Open.
  9. Click to select the file into which you want to import the exported data, and then click Open.
  10. On the File menu, click Import.
  11. Click to select the file that you exported, and then click OK or Import.

In Money 2000, you are prompted to choose how you want to import the QIF file. Click the As a new or recovered account option, click OK, and then click Back Up Now to save a copy of the original file.
  12. In the Account List box, click the account into which you want to import the data.
  13. Click OK.
  14. When you are prompted that the import is complete, click OK.
  15. Change the opening balance of the new account to reflect the sum of the opening balances of all the combined accounts.
Note When you import a .QIF file into an existing Money account, the opening balance is replaced (overwritten) by the opening balance of the .QIF file. The result is an incorrect running balance.

Combining Accounts in the Same Money File

To combine accounts in the same Money file, use the appropriate method for your version of Money.

Money 97 or Later

Assume that the accounts you want to combine are called A and B.
  1. Right-click the first transaction in Account A.
  2. In Money 97 through Money 2000, click Move To Account.

In Money 2002 and later, click Copy to Account.
  3. Double-click Account B to move the transaction.
  4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 until all transactions from Account A have been moved to Account B.
Account A should now have no transactions.
