SUMMARY

When you reinstall Microsoft Money into a folder in which Money files have already been stored, files ending with *.MNY are not deleted or changed in any way. However, to be safe, Microsoft recommends that you always back up the *.MNY files before you reinstall Money.

MORE INFORMATION

Note There is one exception. The installation programs for Money versions 97 and later overwrites any file named Sample.mny. To see the file extension, follow these steps.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. In Explorer, click Options or click Folder Options on the View menu.
  2. Click the View tab.
  3. Make sure that the Hide MS-DOS File Extensions For File Types That Are Registered check box is not selected or the Hide File Extensions for Known File Types check box is not selected.
  4. Click OK.
You now see the .MNY extensions on your Money files.
