A desktop pattern and color is what is displayed on the screen if no
bitmap is selected. If a bitmap is selected for the desktop, the pattern
still appears as the background for the text underneath the icons placed
on the screen.
However, if the patterns do not appear when you click Edit Pattern, change
the desktop color to anything other than black.
