SUMMARY

In Microsoft Project, fixed resource costs are either accrued at the beginning or at the end of a task. If the Prorated option is selected, then the costs are accrued at the beginning of the task. Therefore, there is no way to prorate fixed costs as a task progresses.

MORE INFORMATION

Consider the following:

  1. Enter a 10-day duration task and assign a resource.
  2. On the Resource Form, assign a standard rate of $10, cost per use of $1000 and, set Accrue At to Prorated.
  3. From the View menu, choose Resource Usage.
  4. From the Format menu, choose Details, then choose Cost.

    Note that there is a cost of $1080.00 the first day and $80 a day for the remaining nine days.
  5. Select the resource on the Resource Usage view and select the Edit menu. Choose Form. Change the Accrue At to End.
Note that all of the cost ($1800.00) is applied to the last day.
