When you enter times for evening or night shifts that begin in the PM and end in the AM, Project stores the working hours in 24-hour format (one day). Therefore, the AM time must come before the PM time.

For example, lines entered in the following order would be incorrect.
    7:00 PM 11:00 PM (Hours 19 to 23)
   12:00 AM 4:00 AM (Hours 0 to 4)

The correct order for entering the lines is the following:
   12:00 AM 4:00 AM (Hours 0 to 4)
    7:00 PM 11:00 PM (Hours 19 to 23)

In this example the 12:00 AM to 4:00 AM are the last four hours of the shift from the night preceding. The 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM hours are the first four hours of the beginning of the present shift. Therefore the last four hours of the present shift will be the first entry on the next day. In the first example above, the time is seen as crossing over "two days" (hours 19 to 23 of day 1, and hours 0 to 4 of day 2).
