FIX: Pre-Analysis Services Service Pack 3 Client Cannot Administer Analysis Services Service Pack 3 (331925)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Service Pack 3 (SP3), you receive the following error message if you remotely administer the server from Analysis Manager or from any Decision Support Objects (DSO) application that has not been upgraded to SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Service Pack 3:
Unable to connect to the registry on the server (servername), or you are not a member of the OLAP Administrators group on this server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The error occurs because of changes in the registry settings for SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services SP3. You must install SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services SP3 on the computer that has:
  • Analysis Manager

-or-

  • Any application that relies on Decision Support Objects (DSO) to connect to Analysis Services.


SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services SP3 updates the DSO components that allow you to connect to Analysis Services. After you install SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services SP3, you will not receive the error message described in the "Symptoms" section.
