XADM: Address Lists Are Not Displayed in Outlook Client When You Try to Download the Offline Address List (329611)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q329611 NOTE: This article applies to the Japanese version of Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
SYMPTOMS
You may experience problems when you generate a default offline address list that is based on an address list other than the Default Global Address List in the Japanese version of Exchange 2000 Server. When users try to download the offline address list by using an English version of Microsoft Outlook, none or only some of the expected address lists are displayed in the Offline Address Book dialog box. When Outlook users synchronize their Offline Files, the synchronization log may contain entries that are similar to the following entries:
Microsoft Exchange offline address book
0X80070057
NOTE: The All Users and All Groups address list is an example of an address list other than the Default Global Address list.
CAUSE
Exchange 2000 Server uses the default locale of the server to generate address list names. If the server cannot convert the characters in the name of the address list to the codepage of the client, double-byte character set (DBCS) characters are converted to question marks (?). Because of this, address list names may not be displayed in the Offline Address Book dialog box when you try to download the offline address list in Outlook. This condition can exist if the default locale of the offline address list server is set to English.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, set the default locale of the offline address list server to Japanese. When you do, the address lists are correctly displayed in the Offline Address Book dialog box of Outlook with Japanese characters. To set the default system locale to Japanese:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Regional Options.
- Click the General tab if it is not already selected.
- In the Your locale (location) box, click Japanese, and then click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
