Cannot add accounts to folder's client permissions in Exchange 2000 (329601)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to set client permissions on public folders by adding an account to the folder's client permissions, you may receive the following error message:
An unknown error has occurred.

ID no: 8004010f
Exchange System Manager

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you try to add a disabled account to the folder's client permissions.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, temporarily enable the account before you add it to client permissions, and then disable it again.

NOTE: After you enable the account, you may have to wait for the change to be replicated before you can successfully add the account.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
