The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.0

This article was previously published under Q329242

SUMMARY

This articles describes the algorithm that Exchange Server uses when you perform a Refresh all items in the directory command by using Update Now in the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program.

MORE INFORMATION

Within a Site

When you perform a Refresh all items in the directory command, a push notification is sent out from the Exchange Server directory service that you made the change to. The push notification goes to the next alphabetically-named server in the site. Then the directory service waits two minutes and sends a push notification to the next alphabetically-named server, and so on.

Between Sites

Intersite directory replication is manually configured on the directory replication connectors (also known as bridgeheads).
