Computer Does Not Join a Domain During Mini-Setup (328609)

SYMPTOMS

If you try to join a computer to a domain during the mini-Setup portion of Sysprep, you may receive the following error message:
You have entered an invalid password. Would you like to proceed for now and try joining a domain later?
The computer may successfully join the domain after the computer restarts and completes the mini-Setup process.

CAUSE

There is a problem with the driver for the network adapter that was supplied with the Windows media.

RESOLUTION

Obtain an updated driver from the manufacturer of the network adapter.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use the information in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article to use a script to join the computer to the domain:

If you use Network Monitor to trace network traffic during the Setup process, you can filter on DHCP traffic. You see that the client sends a DHCP Discover broadcast and that the server responds with a DHCP Offer packet within the required five seconds. The network driver never processes the DHCP Offer packet and tries this process an additional three times. The DHCP client does not succeed and an AutoNet IP address is assigned to the client.
