SUMMARY

Servers that use DCOM remember the connection information. Therefore, if your server has two network adapters and a connection is made on one of those adapters, the server tries to use that adapter again even if the adapter is disconnected. This occurs even if the request for the object is received on the other, connected network adapter.

MORE INFORMATION

DCOM saves the connection information, but times out the connection after three pings are unsuccessful. Each ping is separated by two minutes, for a total six-minute delay. After this delay, the connection is made on the other adapter. The six-minute delay does not start until a connection is requested on the disconnected network adapter.

Note that this behavior affects any program that uses DCOM. Therefore, Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) calls, for example, are affected in the same way.
