SUMMARY

This article describes how to examine two connection features that are available in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 1 (SP1): Instant Message Polling and Fixed Port callback delivery.

MORE INFORMATION

Use the following diagnostic tools to examine Instant Message Polling and Fixed Port callback delivery:
  • You can use Network Monitor to monitor the traffic on your network and the behavior of its components. Network Monitor monitors network activity exclusively. Run the netmon command from a command prompt to monitor Instant Message Polling and Fixed Port callback delivery activity.

To run the netmon command, click Start, click Run, type netmon, and then click OK.
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000 contain performance counters. You can use the Performance Logs and Alerts Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in to record system activity over time, so that you can analyze the activity later. You can also configure alerts so that activity that crosses defined thresholds (such as adding an entry to the Application event log, sending a message to a console in Windows 2000, starting a performance data log, or starting a program) generates events. Run the perfmon command from a command prompt to examine the CPU load and network bandwidth that is in use.

To run perfmon, click Start, click Run, type perfmon, and then click OK.
