SYMPTOMS

When you log on to Windows as a non-administrator, you may not be able to use some of the Smart Tag options. When you try to use the Office XP Smart Tags in Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel, several of the Smart Tag options that add a person's name may be missing from the Smart Tag options list. For example, the following options may be missing:
  • Schedule a Meeting
  • Open Contact
  • Add to Contacts
  • Insert Address

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the permissions in the following registry key are incorrect or damaged:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Outlook.Application

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this issue, edit the permissions to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Outlook.Application registry key. Log on to your computer as an administrator, and then use Registry Editor to locate the following registry key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Outlook.Application

Give the Everyone group Full Control permissions to this registry key, and then quit Registry Editor.
