SUMMARY

Persistent Storage Manager (PSM) Service Pack 1 (SP 1) provides the latest updates to PSM. This service pack contains significant stability and performance improvements. Some of the fixes included with this service pack have been previously released as separate QFEs. This service pack combines them into one integrated package, and it includes other changes that are designed to improve the reliability and performance of Persistent Storage Manager.

MORE INFORMATION

Bug Fixes Included in PSM SP 1

The service pack includes the following bug fixes:
  • In earlier versions, start times might take hours. With this service pack, when you start the computer, Persistent True Images is online and available in minutes. This is especially helpful to users with large terabyte systems.
  • In a clustering environment, bug fixes have been added to address cluster time-out issues when you restore a volume.
  • PSM includes a deletion logic that automatically deletes the oldest, least prioritized PTI when the configurable deletion threshold is reached. In cluster scenarios, PSM sometimes did not actually delete and the PTI would come back after a fail-over or restart. Also, if the cache file filled up, you had to manually delete the very last PTI.
  • If two deletions occured at the same time, you might receive an error message on a blue screen.
  • Systems with more than 13 volumes associated with drive letters were likely to display the volumes GUID instead of the driver letters in the GUI screen. As a result, you could not take Persistent True Images on these volumes.
  • PSM now supports the PSM granule sizes of 64 KB, 128 KB, and 256 KB, with 64 KB as the default. This means that the cache file can be 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB respectively. The Gransize.vbs script, available in the C:\Winnt\System32\ServerAppliance folder, is provided to OEMs for setup. By increasing the granule size, PSM can be better suited to support very large terabyte systems.
  • General bug fixes that improve performance and reliability.

Before You Install the Service Pack

Before installing this service pack, note the following:
  • You must remove PSM Version 1.0 before you install PSM Version 2.2. You cannot upgrade PSM 1.0 directly to PSM 2.2.
