"Installation Failed" Error Message When You Try to Install Office Web Components (328038)

This article was previously published under Q328038 SYMPTOMS To display correctly, some Web pages may require the
installation of the Office Web Components to Microsoft Internet Explorer. In
this situation, a dialog box may be displayed, prompting you to install these
controls automatically from a Microsoft Web site. However, when you try to
download and install the controls, you may receive the following error
message: The Microsoft Office Web Installer requires
administrative privileges in order to install necessary components.
Installation failed. CAUSEThis issue may occur if your user account is not an
administrator of the local computer. This may also occur if you are logged on
as a domain user who is an administrator on the local computer and who belongs
to more than 24 global groups. WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
- Temporarily log on to the computer by using a domain
administrator account, and then install the Office Web Components.
- Log on to the computer by using a local administrator
account that does not belong to a large number of global groups.
- Install the Office Web Components from the Office 2000
Service Release 1 (SR-1) CD-ROM.
