DFS Does Not Delete All Entries from the DFS Referral Cache During Logoff (327408)

SYMPTOMS

The Distributed File System (DFS) functionality in Directory Services Client for Windows 95 and Windows 98 may not delete all entries from the client DFS referral cache during user logoff.

The cache contains DFS lists of target network paths for DFS links that are contained in DFS roots. These might be orphaned if a user logs off and another account is used to log on to a different domain without an intervening system restart. Additionally, if a network administrator changes a link target from a share to a DFS root (or the reverse), all the Windows 95 and Windows 98 clients must be restarted afterward to make sure that connectivity is safe.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, restart the computer if you are logging onto another domain after the first user logs off.
