XCCC: "Access Is Denied" Error Message When You Try to Create Instant Messaging Virtual Server Across Domains (326724)

SYMPTOMS

If you use an account in a child domain to log on to Microsoft Windows, and then you try to create a new instance of Instant Messaging Virtual Server through Exchange System Manager in the parent domain, you receive the following error message:
Unable to enumerate files and directories because the following error occurred: Access is denied.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the account that you used to authenticate does not have the correct level of permissions to view and change the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) metabase on Instant Messaging Server.

WORKAROUND

Before you try to create the new instance of Instant Messaging Virtual Server, log on to Windows by using a domain account that has local Administrator credentials on the server on which you are trying to create the instance of Instant Messaging Virtual Server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
