Error Message Refers to "Isscript.msi" File When You Try to Install a Program (326674)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install a program after you upgrade your computer to Windows XP, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again. Enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package 'Isscript.msi' in the box below.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the ISScript program is installed in your computer.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this behavior, remove ISScript and registry entries that are associated with the program:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In the Currently installed programs list, click the entry for the ISScript program if it is present, and then click Remove.

    Note If you receive the error message from the "Symptoms" section of this article after you perform this step, quit Add or Remove Programs, and then go to step 4.
  4. Click Start, and then click Run.
  5. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  6. Click the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer\Products\799411B8369C3D11BBDA000CF495697A

  7. On the File menu, click Export.
  8. In the Export Registry File dialog box, type a name for the file, select a location in which to save the file, and then click Save.
  9. Right-click the registry key that you located in step 6, and then click Delete.
  10. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the deletion.
  11. Quit Registry Editor.
  12. Restart your computer.
