BUG: Error Message When You Open a Media Player File Through File Explorer (326631)

This article was previously published under Q326631 SYMPTOMSIf you open a Microsoft Windows Media Player file through
File Explorer, the device may stop responding (hang), or you may receive the
following error message: Windows Media Player cannot
play this file because the file cannot be found or the file type is not valid.
Verify that the Windows Media Player network and proxy settings (Tools >
Settings > Network) are correct, or that any required storage cards are
available. CAUSE This behavior occurs when a Media Player file is opened
outside the Media Player application. You must open Media Player files only
inside Media Player. RESOLUTION To play a file:
- Tap Start, and then tap Windows Media.
- Tap Select, and then locate the content or file.
- Open the file.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft
products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
