Field results appear in print layout view, but Word prints field codes and displays them in print preview (326503)

SYMPTOMS

When you view a document in print preview or when you print the document, the field codes appear where the field code results are expected. Word displays the field code results in print layout view.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you turned on the option to print field codes instead of field results.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Print.
  2. Click Options, click to clear the Field codes check box under Include with document.
  3. Click OK, and then click Close.
  4. On the File menu, click Print Preview to verify that Word displays the field code results.
