FIX: Designer does not call IPerPropertyBrowsing::GetPredefinedStrings to update the Properties window (325663)

SYMPTOMS

A Microsoft ActiveX control may provide display strings for a property through the IPerPropertyBrowsing interface. The Properties window caches these values. However, these values are not updated in the cache when display strings dynamically change. The set of display strings that is provided may depend on other properties of the ActiveX control.

Also, when you change the DISPID of the property (or when DISPID is set to DISPID_UNKNOWN), and the ActiveX control calls IPropertyNotifySink::OnChanged, the value of a property in the Properties window may not be updated.

In the Properties window, when you change the Name property for an ActiveX control in the Windows Forms Designer, the ActiveX control does not call the control IOleControl::OnAmbientPropertyChange(DISPID_AMBIENT_DISPLAYNAME).

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio .NET service pack that contains this hotfix.
